Songfacts®:

  • This is one of Kelly Clarkson's most intense songs. It's about a woman in the throes of addiction which is slowly destroying her, but it makes her feel amazing and gratifying when she's high. It can apply to substance addiction or to a destructive relationship. >>>

  • Clarkson wrote this with former Evanescence members Ben Moody and David Hodges. The trio also wrote Clarkson's hit "Because Of You."

  • Nikki from LouisianaI agree with both actually. I can easily relate this to when I was stuck in my addiction. My favorite part is
"I'm hooked on you I need a fix I can't take it just one more hit I promise I can do with it I'll handle it quit it just one more time then that's it just a little bit more to get me through it".
I couldn't do ANYTHING without a hit and I'd always tell myself that this was the last.
As far as the relationship is concerned all I can say is... codependent much??
  • Tess from CaliforniaActually it's about being so in love with someone who is toxic. She states clearly "it's like you're a drug". Her whole life is consumed by this person and she's trying to get away but her love/obsession keeps her going back to the person.
  • Biff from Oshkosh WisconsinI played this song on the jukebox and nobody in the place could believe it was Clarkson.
