Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from the album Meaning of Life, "Love So Soft" is a percussion-heavy soul-trap R&B anthem with a modern production that compliments Kelly Clarkson's powerful voice. The track was written by Priscilla Renea, Jesse Shatkin and MoZella. Renea later had success as a singer, recording as Muni Long. Shatkin and MoZella also co-wrote Clarkson's "Take You High."
  • The song features session appearances by bass and horn musicians from the soul band Earth, Wind & Fire led by Verdine White and Gary Bias.
  • The video was directed by Dave Meyers, whom Clarkson had previously worked with on her clip for her 2004 track "Breakaway". The visual depicts the songstress in a variety of settings and outfits.

"The concept for 'Love So Soft' is basically all these different forms of love," Clarkson explained in a behind the scenes film. "Y'know, love can be explosive, love can be defiant, love can be bold, love can be sexy and sassy and all these different things. So we have all these different set-ups of how love can come across."
  • Clarkson revealed in a Q&A streamed on her YouTube channel, that Dave Meyers "got so incredibly ill" that he had to direct the video from his hospital bed.
  • Asked by ABC Radio what drew her to the song, Clarkson replied, "I just love the fact that it's how my husband makes me feel. Y'know, very sexy... and it's just an intimate song on a fun, sassy level."
