Songfacts®:

  • This was one of three previously unreleased tracks from Kelly Clarkson's first greatest hits album, Greatest Hits: Chapter One. The song was written by pop/rock singer/songwriter Meghan Kabir, country and rock writer Blair Daly and American Idol season 10 finalist, James Durbin.
  • The song was produced by Greg Kurstin, who previously helmed Clarkson's #1 hit, "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)."
  • The song's music video was directed by Chris Marrs Piliero, whose other credits include Britney Spears' "I Wanna Go" and The Wanted's "I Found You." It was filmed on April 9, 2013, at Mission Street Lab in South Pasadena, and finds Clarkson playing a doctor in a near future medical deck, who later helps an innocent child escape the high security institution. Clarkson dedicates the clip "to the damned, to the lost and forgotten," reminding them, "We come into this world unknown. But know that we are not alone. They try and knock us down. But change is coming; it's our time now."

Clarkson said of the video in behind-the scenes footage: "It's kind of a cool concept. It's movie-like, which I like, I like the cinematic feel. We're in a black-and-white world and there's this little girl that's in colour and no-one knows what's wrong with her."
She added: "I love that it's about not conforming. The world isn't black and white. Everybody comes in different colours, shapes and sizes, and that's beautiful."
