Songfacts®:

  • Kelly Clarkson wrote this Meaning of Life track this with her "What Doesn't Kill You (Stronger)" collaborator Greg Kurstin. The singer told Entertainment Weekly that she drew from the experience of watching several couples in her life break up for the lyrics. "If somebody said 'I never loved you' after being with you for so long, how devastating would that be?" Clarkson explained. "'If that wasn't love, what would you call that?' So that's where this song stemmed from."
  • It was Craig Kallman, the CEO of Atlantic Records, who persuaded Kelly Clarkson to include this song on Meaning of Life. She explained to OfficialCharts.com:

"'Would You Call That Love' almost didn't make the album because of me. Craig fought me on it and told me straight that it was. It's because I'm hard on myself – the whole album is very sensual, very sassy… I felt like it was the only one that had a different vibe about it, but that was the thing that everyone loved about it. I'm so happy we kept it on there."
