Songfacts®:

  • This Harmony Samuels produced track finds Rowland walking out on a relationship that has run its course. Rapper Wiz Khalifa jumps in with a verse, in which he tells her disloyal ex to stay away.
  • The song weaves in an interpolation of Joni Mitchell's "Big Yellow Taxi" on its hook. Rowland recalled to Radio.com that she was having trouble coming up with a chorus for the tune, which focuses on a man who just can't seem to understand a relationship is over. Then co-writer, Courtney Harrell, stared singing the chorus of "Big Yellow Taxi": "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone."

"[Harrell] started singing and I was like, 'We can't... wait, that's hot," Rowland explained. "It came together like that. It was just perfect how it happened."

Janet Jackson also sampled "Big Yellow Taxi" in her single "Got 'Til It's Gone."
  • Those of you Googling "Kelly Rowland Gone" will no doubt have come across a song by Nelly. Rowland supplied guest vocals on the hip-hop recording artist's 2010 single, "Gone," which was an update of their 2003 international hit "Dilemma."
