Songfacts®:

  • Kenny Chesney's friendship with Old Dominion dates back to when Old Dominion members Brad Tursi and Matthew Ramsey wrote Chesney's 2014 hit "Save It for a Rainy Day." The five-man band have been frequent concert openers for the country star, including on his Here And Now 2022 Tour. On "Beer With My Friends," they celebrate their longtime friendship with their first-ever collaboration.

"There are people you meet and just click," Chesney said of recording the stadium-ready tune with the group. "Matt and Brad have been singing 'Save It for a Rainy Day' with me on all these tours, and that's always - every single night - one of the highlights of the show for me. You can feel the energy, so I started thinking we better catch that while we can."
  • "Beer With My Friends" is an ode to unwinding at a bar after a hard day's work with your favorite people. "We've all been there," Chesney said with a laugh. "It doesn't matter if it's four years or yesterday, there's nothing like hitting that local bar with your friends. That's what this whole tour has felt like - every city, every face, every song - as we've taken it back out to No Shoes Nation. It's so much more than a show or a concert, it's really letting go - and I wanted to capture that in a song. 'Beer With My Friends' is all of it."
  • Chesney's songwriting buddy David Lee Murphy wrote the song with Shy Carter and Bryan Simpson. Murphy previously collaborated with Chesney on another bar-themed tune, "Flora-Bama," which the singer recorded for his The Big Revival album.
  • Shy Carter recorded the original version of "Beer With My Friends." He released it as a single in collaboration with David Murphy and Cole Swindell in 2021.

Chesney released his version on August 26, 2022, one day before wrapping up his Here And Now Tour.
