Songfacts®:

  • Kick back and buckle up, y'all! "Just to Say We Did" is a full-throttle anthem for living large and embracing the thrill of the moment. The song is a wild ride, asking us to seize opportunities and tackle that bucket list head-on.
  • In each verse, Kenny Chesney dishes out personal tales where taking chances just for the heck of it led to gold in them spontaneous hills. The repeated chorus drives these points home.

    Just to feel alive
To take a leap of faith
To feel that kind of high
Tonight, let's turn it up, fall in love wild
And catch enough buzz to just ride them
Crazy horses runnin' through our heads
    Just to say we did

"What can I say? 'Just to Say We Did' sounds like me and my friends growing up, and so many people I've met along the way," said Chesney. "It's a song where whatever it is, why not? Get out there and live, shoot your shot, do that bucket list thing - just to say you did. When you can boil down how to create real joy into three minutes that feels this good, I want to sing that song."
  • "Just To Say We Did" stays true to Chesney's frequent thematic message of enjoying life to the fullest. While this song encourages embracing individual adventures, "Don't Blink" is about slowing down and cherishing every moment, "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" concerns trying to pack in as much as you can each day, and "Here And Now" focuses on appreciating the present.
  • Chesney wrote the testament to shared experiences and wild escapades with Brett James, David Lee Murphy and Matt Dragstrem. Chesney has recorded plenty of James' songs down the years, including "Out Last Night" and "When the Sun Goes Down."

Murphy is another of the country star's songwriting buddies. Their previous collaborations include "Living in Fast Forward" and "Live a Little."

Dragstrem is a newer face for Chesney. His resumé includes Thomas Rhett's "Be A Light" and Luke Bryan's "One Margarita."
  • Chesney co-produced "Just to Say We Did" with his regular collaborator, Buddy Cannon. Their production incorporates elements of contemporary country with a touch of rock.
  • Chesney released the song on February 2, 2024, as the second single from Born. It aligns perfectly with the mood of his Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour.

"'Just To Say We Did' is a lot of the energy we live on. Not just my road family, but all those crazy, awesome folks pulling up and tailgating out in the parking lots where No Shoes Nation comes to life every weekend," Chesney said. "We picked this song as the next grat track for them, too."
