Songfacts®:

  • Loggins wrote "Conviction Of The Heart" with his guitarist, Guy Thomas, who got the idea when he was driving to Los Angeles and saw a toxic wastefill. Thomas was reminded of the line from the movie Network: "I'm as mad as hell and I'm not gonna take it anymore," and he decided to take action, as he was upset about what was going on in the environment.
  • Al Gore called this the "unofficial anthem of the environmental movement" when Loggins performed it on Earth Day in 1995 at The National Mall in Washington, DC. The song has become one of Kenny Loggins' signature tunes.
  • Loggins later included the song on a TV special called This Island Earth. The title song won an Emmy and was included on his The Unimaginable Life album based on the memoir he and his second wife, Julia, had written. >>>

  • Loggins says environmentalism should be seen as a humanitarian effort. "People are being sold that environmentalists only care about animals and not people," he told The Los Angeles Times in 1995. "That's a fallacy. Every environmentalist is in it because of their children or their own connection to life itself. Some scientists have said we're out of time, others have said we're not. I figure as long I've got my life to live and I've got my children, then we're not out of time."
  • This is the first single from Loggins' seventh solo album, Leap Of Faith. The album was certified Gold in the US for 500,000 copies sold.

  • Sara from Silver Spring, MdKenny's guitarist Guy Thomas who co wrote the song filed suit against Garth Brooks claiming it sounded like one of his songs...
The girl in the opening of the song is Kenny Loggins' daughter Isabella and the interlude before the guitar vamp begins is by New Age composer Mark Isham. It was also used at one of John Denver's Windstar Concerts in 1995 where Bella Loggins once again did the opening lines.
