  • Here, Kevin Welch testifies to how real wealth can be found in the love of another rather than an accumulation of money.

I got a woman with eyes that shine
Down deep, as a diamond mine
She's my treasure so very rare
    She made me a millionaire

It is the shared love with someone special that makes you truly rich.
  • Welch, a singer-songwriter from Austin, Texas, used this as the title track of his 2002 album. He recorded the Millionaire record mostly in Denmark, where he was backed by a Copenhagen-based band called the Danes.
  • Chris Stapleton recorded the song on his 2017 album From A Room: Volume 2. On his slow, soulful interpretation he is accompanied by his wife and singing partner, Morgane. "I would always sit around the house playing that song to myself on a guitar," he told Taste of Country. "It's fun to play. It's fun to sing. It's a great melody. It's great lyrics, great everything. To me, that's a great song and I just loved it, so it was time to do it."
  • Chris Stapleton's version was released as the lead single on From A Room: Volume 2. It was made available to country radio on April 23, 2018 and peaked at #47 on the Hot 100.
  • Kevin Welch wrote the song at home in Nashville at a time when he was just embarking on a new relationship. He recalled to The Boot that he was feeling "optimistic and grateful" and the song was written pretty quickly.
  • Solomon Burke recorded this for his 2006 album Nashville. Welch's original version had him saying, "That boy is sure living in luxury," but when Burke laid down his interpretation, he looked Welch "dead in the eye as he was recording it and changed it to 'That man.'"

Welch said: "Solomon was a black gentleman with 90 grandchildren; he wasn't about to refer to himself as 'boy.' I appreciated that, and nowadays, I say 'man' also."

Chris Stapleton retains "that boy" on his version, which makes Welch think he learned it from his original rather than Burke's cover.
