Songfacts®:

  • This is the title track of Kid Rock's ninth studio album. The record was recorded fast and loose - "Me and my band were just sitting there in the corner while they were re-doing my studio," Rock explained to MTV News. "So I was like 'Man, let's just plug in and record,' and we worked it out in a couple of weeks."
  • Rock told Detroit Free Press that the song has lingering traces of "Born Free" showing "my affinity for the South and Midwest and a simple way of life." He added: "It's a poignant song - just being an individual and standing for what you believe in."
