Songfacts®:

  • "4th Dimension" finds Kanye West and Kid Cudi touching on a variety of off-color subjects ranging from accidental anal sex, WWE Hall of Famer Ric Flair's legendary bedding of women and Cudi's struggles with drug abuse and depression.

This the theme song, oh somethin' wrong
Might need an intervention for this new dimension

Both artists refer to the possibility of "4h Dimension" being their theme song, but given its risqué subject matter, they admit that won't be a good thing.
  • The song is primarily built around Italian-American big band singer and trumpeter Louis Prima's 1936 song "What Will Santa Say?": Kanye and co-producer Mike Dean also incorporate at the end of the track a sample of gospel singer Shirley Ann Lee's "Someday." Yeezy sampled the same song on "Ghost Town" from his solo album Ye, which was released just a week before Kids See Ghosts.
  • "4th Dimension" debuted at #42 on the Hot 100 dated June 23, 2018. Louis Prima's previous appearance on the Hot 100 was with the song "Wonderland by Night" on the chart dated February 13, 1961, The gap of 57 years, four months and two weeks broke the record for the longest break between appearances on the listing.
  • The crediting of Louis Prima as a featured artist marked the third time Kanye West had given a posthumous credit. The previous two were both Watch The Throne tracks: Otis Redding on "Otis" and Curtis Mayfield on "The Joy."
