Songfacts®:

  • This tribal-beat ballad is the lead single for Finding Neverland: The Album, a companion project to the Broadway musical inspired by the film of the same name. Penned by Take That's Gary Barlow and Spice Girls songwriter Eliot Kennedy, the song is performed in the musical version by the character J. M. Barrie, whose friendship with the boys George, Jack, Peter and Michael, inspired the classic play Peter Pan.
  • Canadian songstress Kiesza told Billboard magazine that she found her own connection to the song by applying the lyrics to her own struggles in the music industry. "It was really empowering," she said. "I related to it myself just because it took a lot of inner strength to make it in this industry, and it continues to be that way. I've been in those situations where I felt like maybe I hit a dead end, and it was all up to finding an inner strength within myself to take another step forward."
  • Finding Neverland is the first original Broadway musical to get the pop-star treatment since Elton John and Tim Rice's Aida, a 1999 concept album that contained songs from, but predated the main production of, the 2000 musical Aida. A single from that project, Elton John and LeAnn Rimes' version of "Written In The Stars," peaked at #29 on the Hot 100.
