Songfacts®:

  • This song of a yearning love from a afar was written by King's X guitarist Ty Tabor. There was a real "Goldilox," but she probably doesn't know this song is about her.

Tabor spotted her in a Houston club called Cardi's, where he and his buddies went to check out various metal bands, including an early version of Pantera. In King's X: The Oral History, he explained: "It was this really big club - a lot of great bands came through all the time, so it was a great place to see killer musicians. We would go and check out pretty much anybody that came through town. And, one night, there was this beautiful girl with long, curly, gold hair, a couple of tables in front of me. But I was too chicken to bother her. I went home, and I had this music in my head, and I couldn't get it out of my head. I didn't even really have anything to write about, so I took that incident and turned it into this whole big deal, which to be honest with you, wasn't as big as the song makes it seem. But that was the inspiration for it. It was a real person that I never met."
  • This was one of the first King's X singles. Signed to Atlantic Records, they had the makings of rock stardom, but never broke through with a Hot 100 hit and only troubled the Rock chart on occasion. They did, however, develop a very dedicated fan base that did their best to spread the word. "Goldilox" is so popular amongst the King's X faithful that they will sometimes sing the entire song while the band plays the music.

  • Jeff Indigo from Chicago, IllinoisThis song has been through a myriad of tunings and playing styles. From standard tuning, half a step down, and currently a full step down (D standard). This song has been played live, in the studio, acoustic, and even for the most part acapella by their loving fans. This is the only King's X song to get a reprise as seen on their 2005 album "Ogre Tones".
  • Daniel Tice from SplendoraI have a Les Paul [Goldtop Deluxe]. This song made me think of her. I broke into playing in bands with her around me always. Now I mostly miss her because after all these years of playing, I'm unable to make music w/her much anymore because...uuh, um, She's So Heavy! Hence her name is [Goldilox].
