  • Kip Moore grew up in the Bible Belt in southern Georgia, where he attended his local Baptist church. When he turned 18, the singer started on a spiritual journey where he tried to figure out what he really believes. Moore has read a lot, including the Bible, and also studied other religions, but is still trying to figure out how some of his Baptist church's teachings can coexist with some of his own beliefs. This vulnerable song is about his spiritual searching.

Someday I might find my way to heaven
Lord I hope there's still room on that train
But if you're looking for me tonight, I'll be out here burning bright
Somewhere between the fire and flame

Said Moore: "'Fire And Flame' is just a song speaking of my journey and the things that I feel inside about everything that I just said. I just know I'm not the only one that feels this way and has those questions and has those questions about myself. But regardless of the questions that I do have, my faith always remains intact."
  • He had a love there in his eyes
    That perfect peace I recognized
    I knew I wanted, I knew I wanted
He spoke the truth reached out to me
He took my hand I shook it free

Moore explained to Apple Music that he wrote this song about his search for that elusive joy and peace. Whenever he slips and slides and neglects his spiritual journey, he feels disconnected and lost. No matter how much he wants and needs that perfect peace, other things get in the way. "I've always had my faith, and I've never shied away from that. But I always push it away," Moore said. "Even knowing that about myself, knowing that that's where I find the most peace, I still run back into the world. That's the whole line of 'He took my hand and I shook it free.'"
