Songfacts®:

  • This metaphor-driven ballad finds Kip Moore reflecting about romance and what it means to say you love someone.

If you were my last breath, I'd just wanna hold ya
If you were my last night I ever had on wheels, I woulda drive you like I stole ya
If you were my last shot, last shot of whiskey
I'd press you to my lips, take a little sip
Swirl you around and around and around

Moore is not holding back in putting his feelings about his girl into poetry.
  • Kip Moore co-wrote the tune with Dan Couch and David Lee Murphy. He recalled the story of the song:

"Dan actually came in with that idea and we just kind of danced around that song for probably three hours before we ever could tackle how to get it, where we wanted to go and you get a little bit of that old school Aerosmith vibe from the lyrics to the melodic sense even to the production of it, and, yeah, I mean the minute David Lee said . . . When I started singing that melody, I was just humming and different stuff, and he said, 'If you were my last breath I'd just want to hold you,' and I thought that was just such a brilliant line, so then it was just about, 'Alright, this is a love song, this is an old school country love song right here,' so that's what we went with."
  • Directed by Kip Moore's longtime collaborator and friend PJ Brown, the heart-rending music clip follows the poignant journey of a young girl as she faces the reality of her life being cut short. We see the ways her friends make the most of their dwindling time together.

"When we first talked about the video for this song, I felt like I wanted to tap into the deeper meaning behind it," said Moore. "How that feeling of desperation and realization that every second matters, can sometimes be the motivation you need to really take action. I've always been a big believer of living in the moment and I hope people are inspired in some way by this video to do the same."
