Songfacts®:

  • Kodaline were formed in the quartet's small Irish hometown of Swords and performed regularly in nearby Dublin. Frontman Steve Garrigan told The Sun that this song, "is about the band leaving the town and seeing the world."

When we spoke with the band's drummer Vinny May in 2014, he explained that their success hasn't changed them. "We're still the same people," he said. "We still hang with the same friends when we go home. We haven't really changed that way. Just the same four guys as when we started this thing. The only thing that's changed is that we get people's different perspectives on the songs."
  • The song was released as part of an EP, which also included an acoustic version of the track featuring Scottish songwriter Nina Nesbitt as well as a cover of Roy Davis Jr's 1997 house hit, "Gabriel." Speaking about the collaboration with Nesbitt, guitarist Mark Prendergast said "We first met Nina in LA, when she supported us at the Hotel Cafe. After that, we kept running into each other at shows and became friends. When we started planning the Brand New Day EP, the idea of collaborating on a track came up and Nina was the natural choice."
