Songfacts®:

  • Korn frontman Jonathan Davis wrote this song for his then-fiancée, Renee Perez. They were married on November 28, 1998, but divorced in 2000.
  • "My Gift To You" is a rather twisted love song, with Jonathan Davis singing about choking his lover. He explained: "Renee always wanted me to write her a love song and that's why I called it 'My Gift To You.' It's my gift to her, you know how I get sick. I always had a fantasy of f--king her and choking her to death. I fantasize about what it would look like me in her body and watching me do it. So it's like a really sick f--ked up song. I did it totally like, I love her so much, I want to take her out of this world. It's really strange. She used to leave notes on my pillow like 25 ways she'd like to kill me. She's got this weird death fetish. We're kinda f--kin' freaky. She got it. She's all 'Thank you that's kinda f--ked up. I was expecting a f--kin' I love you, baby kinda song.' I'm all, 'No, you know me.' I mean I can't do that." >>>

  • Jon Davis put a lot of energy into singing this song during Korn's live performances. Guitarist James "Munky" Shaffer recalled to Artist Direct: "We did that song every night in 1999 on one of our tours. Every time we did it, he'd say, 'Man, I can't do that song anymore.' He would give so much. I saw some old videos of him freaking out on the ground during that song. He channels that. Man, you find that energy and raw power in the music, and it propels me to push as hard as I can ever night when I'm performing the songs."
  • Jonathan Davis breaks out the bagpipes on this song, which you can hear in the intro. He grew up playing the pipes and often incorporated them into Korn songs.
  • The song is on Follow The Leader, the album that made Korn bigger than anyone could have expected. They were on the vanguard of the rap-metal movement, which really picked up in 1998 when the album was released. It sold over 5 million copies and paved the way for Limp Bizkit.

  • Beaves from UsaThe "secret track" features Richard Anthony "Cheech" Marin, and is a cover of Cheech and Chongs' "Earache my eye".
  • Ollie from N/aTalk about dreamy amiright lmfao
  • Zero from Nowhere, NjOn the studio recording, Jon plays the intro with the bagpipes while the rest of the band backs him up. They don't play the studio intro live, though, instead doing the intro of a song that's officially labeled as Slayer's "Seasons In The Abyss", though it sounds more to me like "Am I Evil?" by Diamond Head (later covered by Metallica). By the way, Jon really channels his demons and gives his all when performing this song live. Check out their Woodstock '99 performance for the best example.
  • Cyrus from San Diego, CaIt does bring out those dark intentions.. ;)
  • Martin Owens from Belfast, Irelandyeah she is a very morbid girl.
  • Kevin from Indepence, MoAlso see, "Kim" by slim Shady. I know i shouldnt compare the two, but the songs are similar. In respects that both thier wifes wanted a song about them.
