Songfacts®:

  • Texan Country-Soul singer Kree Harrison has been performing publicly from an early age. At 8 years old she was the opening act for R&B performer Percy Sledge and two years later she was singing on The Rosie O'Donnell Show and scoring a development deal with Lyric Street, which resulted in her family moving to Nashville. Harrison began writing her own songs at the age of 14 and signed a publishing deal with Chrysalis Records two years later getting a writing credit on Stephanie Brownlee's Keep It Real set. She also sang backup vocals on Kacey Musgraves' album, Same Trailer Different Park, and Eli Young Band's LP, Life at Best.
  • The soaring ballad was written by Katrina Elam, Gordie Sampson and Steve McEwan. It was chosen to be Harrison's potential coronation song had she won the American Idol title and she sung it on the season's final performance night on May 15, 2013. Harrison told reporters that lyrically and melodically, it was perfect for her. "I couldn't have wrote it better myself," she said. "I don't know if they wrote it for me or if it was just in their catalog and they pitched it to me but whatever the case, I'm so thankful that I'm given this and that was the best part of tonight for me was being able to sing my single hopefully to all of these people. The energy in the room was insane... unbelievable."
  • Harrison has known a lot of tragedy in her life and the song's lyrics reflect the pain she has been through. At the age of 11 she lost her father after the plane he was on crashed off the coast of Spain and eight years later her mother was killed in a head on traffic collision.
