Songfacts®:

  • "I Spy" finds Krept & Konan incorporating UK drill elements into their music as they link up with South Londoner K-Trap and Tottenham based Headie One. The rap duo's previous single, "Ban Drill," was a stance against the UK government's attempt to remove UK drill music videos from YouTube, so the collaboration with a couple of drill rappers was the next logical step.
  • Lyrically, "I Spy" pulls no punches, with hedonistic rhymes about life on the London streets. The rappers talk about spying "with my little eye" various people to avoid including wasters, haters, and devious women.
  • The hard-hitting production is courtesy of BKay, whose other credits include 410's "Think Again Part 1" and Digga D's "I Heard." Krept told Apple Music: "It is a happy beat but the bars are at your neck, so it's a good blend."
  • The accompanying music video for "I Spy" has a party vibe. It was directed by Wowa (Hardy Caprio, Ms Banks, Yxng Bane, Lady Leshurr).
  • K-Trap is from the same South London area that the rap duo are from. In fact, at the time he recorded the song, he was literally living on the next road from where Konan lived. "If you can make these songs and put people on it that are from where we're from and also add to their thing and it add to ours, it just makes so much sense," said Konan.
