Songfacts®:

  • Kristian Bush penned this song about the end of a relationship with guitarist and producer Andrew DeRoberts.

    I hope my love song's
    Bouncing around your heart
    And echoing in your head
Just like we're at the start

Bush explained: "It's a wish that I hope you, wherever you are, hear this song, and it gets inside you, and it brings you comfort. And whatever mistakes we made, let them wash away for a minute and just remember the beautiful of who we are when we're together."

"It never says that in the song," he added, "but maybe the wish is that you'll hear that song and it'll open your heart up enough to come."
  • Kristian Bush said that one of the elements he likes about the song is that it doesn't ask anything of an ex, just simply hoping they'll think of their memories together fondly. "It never says, 'Please come back,' it never says, 'I'm sorry,' it just says, 'Remember me fondly.' It's not something that a lot of songs simply say, without being torch songs," he pointed out to Taste of Country.
  • The Kyle Morgan-directed music clip follows a couple as they film themselves enjoying a day near the water. Later we flash forward a few decades to view the now aged pair watching some of the vintage footage with a younger couple.

"I wrote this song to remind someone that, no matter what happened between us, the thing we had together was good. The video shows how love is built on thousands of tiny little moments in the sunlight, and it asks the question, 'What if those happy memories were strong enough to bring two hearts back together for a happy ending?'" Bush said. "I hope it reminds everyone that just because a relationship ends, the memories from it don't have to disappear. We should never, ever regret love."
