Songfacts®:

  • "Summer Is Over" is a melancholic song where KSI is at a crossroads. He sees the crowds on a high at gigs and clubs with their hands in the air, but while they continue to party, for him the summer is over.

I need you like the sun, sun, sun, sunshine
    Now summer is over

According to KSI, he wrote the song during "a really painful time" in his life. Though he doesn't elaborate on what caused the hurt, it's likely he's referring to a long-term relationship with a girl that reached a breaking point. We infer he still loves her and needs her, but knows their union can't continue. While KSI struggles with his pain, he has to put on a front and obscure his emotions when performing. "As someone in the public, I tend to have to hide my sad moments," he said, "so I normally use music therapeutically to help me get through those times."
  • KSI wrote the song himself. It marks a change of style as he switches from rapping to singing. Producer Dan Priddy (Rag'n'Bone Man's "Anywhere Away From Here," Bastille's "No Bad Days") created the acoustic-laced instrumental.
