Songfacts®:

  • Sir James Wilson Vincent Savile, OBE, KCSG was found dead in his Leeds home shortly before his 85th birthday. His body lay in state in a gold coffin at the Queens Hotel, Leeds, and his funeral was held at Leeds Cathedral, November 11, 2011. He was buried at Scarborough - the seaside town his fellow loiner Michael Chapman sang about. His coffin was tilted at an angle of 45 degrees, so he could "see the sea." His grave was inscribed "PHILANTHROPIST" and much else besides. Within a year, this headstone would be dismantled and the grave left unmarked. A plaque that had recently been affixed to his former Scarborough residence was removed after being defaced with the words PAEDOPHILE and RAPIST.

This and much more resulted from a television documentary first screened October 3, 2011. The Other Side of Jimmy Savile made a number of allegations against him of sexual abuse, including rape, over a lengthy period. The dead are unable to defend themselves, but within days both these allegations and other evidence of Savile's true nature emerged.
  • This short, snappy, topical song, recorded by the man who gave the world "The Barry George Song" puts as humorous a take as anyone could on it. Within 11 days of its appearance on YouTube it had seen over 70,000 page views. >>>
