Radio Romance

Album: Hit Records: The Best of the Kursaal Flyers (1977)

Songfacts®:

  • This is arguably the best remembered song of the Southend pub rock band the Kursaal Flyers. However, even though it was the follow-up to their successful hit single "Little Does She Know," it failed to trouble the UK charts. Singer Paul Shuttleworth explained why to Mojo magazine March 2009: "We thought we were being clever, easing in with 'Little Does She Know.' The #1 hit we thought we had was going to be the next one. But the lyrics of Radio Romance were having a dig at the Radio 1 playlist system, so they wouldn't play it." This lack of airplay, from the UK's then only national radio station, was the reason why the single flopped.
