Songfacts®:

  • Randy Blythe was living at the beach when he was writing the VII: Sturm Und Drang record. He told Billboard magazine: "I haven't lived through a full summer of tourist season since I was a kid, and I had forgotten how f--king horrible they are. There is no reason for tourists to behave like f--king animals and children. The locals are not your goddam maids, and if you want the beach to be nice or the mountaintop to be nice or the town to remain picturesque, don't like throw trash everywhere, don't destroy beauty. I'd be sitting on my front porch and see people throwing s--t out the window. Like, are you insane?"

"So 'Footprints' is about [carbon] footprints. (laughs) It's kind of an ecological song. You can party, fine. Just don't be an a--hole."
