Songfacts®:

  • In 2012, Lana Del Rey joined forces with Rick Nowels to craft a song titled "Yes To Heaven." She recorded it for her 2014 album, Ultraviolence, but it didn't make the final tracklisting. Nevertheless, it began to circulate on the internet, slowly building its own mystique over the years.

By 2022, the song had taken on a life of its own, capturing the hearts of countless listeners who stumbled upon leaked versions on TikTok and YouTube. The demand for an official release grew exponentially as these leaks garnered an impressive number of views and sparked a frenzy among fans longing for an official unveiling.

Finally, on May 18, 2023, the long-awaited moment arrived. Lana Del Rey, responding to the clamor, officially released the song, now titled "Say Yes To Heaven," accompanied by a sped-up version.
  • "Say Yes To Heaven" is a passionate plea to the man who has captured Del Rey's heart. With raw vulnerability, she implores him to take a chance on their love, assuring him she will patiently wait if he needs time to sort things out. Her devotion knows no bounds as she promises to go to great lengths to bring him joy. Del Rey's pledge is unwavering, vowing that their union will be so blissful that it will transport him to a heavenly realm.
  • San Francisco songwriter and producer Rick Nowels was Del Rey's chief writing partner between 2011 and 2017. Their collaborations include "Summertime Sadness," "Young And Beautiful," and "West Coast."

Nowels co-wrote another big "heaven" song as well: Belinda Carlisle's 1987 #1 hit "Heaven Is A Place On Earth."
  • Following its release, "Say Yes to Heaven" became Del Rey's fourth solo Top 10 entry in the UK and her first since "Summertime Sadness" in 2013.
