Songfacts®:

  • Backed by a church choir, Lany frontman Paul Klein takes an introspective look at his personal Christian faith.

I lie to my mama, I smoke marijuana
Most of the time I do what I wanna
    You might not believe it
But I still talk to Jesus

Paul Klein wrote the song after hearing Caleb Followill from Kings of Leon nonchalantly saying, "I still talk to Jesus" in an interview. "It struck a chord with me," he told UK newspaper The Sun. "There are a few things I do in life that I grew up thinking I might go to hell for. But despite my behavior, I still talk to Jesus."
  • Klein wrote the song with:

Shane McAnally, who is best known for his Grammy-winning contributions to Kacey Musgraves' Same Trailer Different Park and Golden Hour albums.

Sasha Sloan, whose other credits include Louis Tomlinson's "Just Hold On" and Camila Cabello's "Never Be the Same."
  • Sasha's Sloan's romantic partner, King Henry, produced the track with Chad Copelin. King Henry co-produced every song on Mama's Boy.
