Songfacts®:

  • "Good Boy" was written for the award winning musical Legally Blonde by the husband and wife team of Laurence O'Keefe and Nell Benjamin. O'Keefe is a composer by profession but they appear to have collaborated on the music and lyrics for the whole score.
  • Who is the good boy? This is a duet between the leading lady, Elle (the actual blonde) and beautician Paulette; the idea is that men should be treated like dogs. It remains to be seen what Mr. O'Keefe thought of this, but the idea is not new. The 1962 comedy If A Man Answers is based on this one idea, although doubtless the wife of some long lost ancient Greek philosopher got there first. "Good Boy" was shortly dropped for the song "Ireland," perhaps under pressure from the Men's Liberation Front? >>>

  • Laura Bell Bundy played Elle Woods in the original 2007 Broadway production of Legally Blonde. The actress/singer released the album Longing for a Place Already Gone in 2007 and Achin' and Shakin' in 2010.
