Songfacts®:

  • This bluesy rebound anthem finds Lauren Alaina "getting over" a failed romance by having a casual, no-strings fling.
  • Inspiration for the song came after Alaina experienced two public breakups over the course of a year. The American Idol runner-up split with her fiancée, Alex Hopkins, whom she first dated in high school. Another breakup followed when a four-month relationship with comedian John Crist fell apart. "I had this idea because after my two breakups," Alaina told ABC Audio, "I had not been single - like really been single - since I was 17 years old. And I was like, 'I just need a little flirty song about a boy in a bar, I think.'"
  • Alaina is joined on the song by Jon Pardi, who portrays her "getting' over him guy." It's not the first time the pair have been duet partners. After Alaina and Pardi co-hosted the 2018 ACM Honors ceremony, they sang a couple of songs together. Pardi then recruited her as a guest artist for his Heartache Medication track "Don't Blame It On Whiskey."
  • As Alaina penned the song with her co-writers Emily Weisband and Paul DiGiovanni, it struck her Pardi would be the perfect duet partner.

"When I was in the writing room writing it, I said it would be really cool to do it as a duet and show like the male perspective as well" Alaina said. "So, we kind of made up this other character, and then we got a songwriter in town to sing the male part. And then I was listening to it, I was like, 'It sounds like we described Jon Pardi.' (laughs) It was very accidental."
  • Alaina originally released the song to country radio on February 22, 2021 as the lead single from her 2020 EP of the same name. She later included on her third studio album, Sitting Pretty on Top of the World, which was released later that year. While her second album, Road Less Traveled, is about becoming a woman, Sitting Pretty on Top of the World is about being that woman amid the ups and downs of life. "It's about going through heartbreak and overcoming it and getting back to a place of hope for the future," Alaina told The Boot. "And I am in that place now."
  • Sister-brother duo Alexa and Stephen Kinigopoulos directed the Bonnie and Clyde-esque video. It finds Alaina and Pardi on the lam from the law after breaking out of jail and taking on an ill-fated crime.
