Songfacts®:

  • The lead single from Lawson's second album features a stomping pop-rock sound. Singer Andy Brown said: "It was important as a band that we come back with something fresh and exciting. 'Roads' feels like a step forward. It explores addictions that people can go through."
  • The song was recorded at Blackbird Studios in Nashville, a location that has also been used by Jack White, Kings Of Leon and Fall Out Boy. Brown said: "Writing and recording at Blackbird allowed us to test ourselves and try new sounds and directions. We're really proud of it."
  • The song was inspired by one of Andy Brown's favourite TV programmes, Californication. He explained to Digital Spy: "Hank Moody (David Duchovny) said the lyric, 'All roads lead back to you, no matter what I do'. I was like, 'That's a really cool concept', and it's just that idea of when you're trying to escape something - whether it's a relationship, drinking, drugs, or whatever - but you just end up back there all the time. It can be about however you interpret it really."
