  • Leah McFall grew up in Newtownabbey, Northern Ireland in a music-loving home, and her own singing career began at her local church at the age of six. After years of gigging around Northern Ireland she uprooted to England to follow her dream. With her five octave vocal range, McFall soon attracted interest and after just six months there, she was playing at the world famous Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club.

McFall first came to the public's attention when she was a contestant on the UK version of The Voice. Her recasting of Gloria Gaynor's Gloria Gaynor's disco classic into a cool jazz number quickly started racking up the downloads after the quarter finals were aired and it debuted at #16 on the UK Singles Chart with just 24 hours of sales. The following week it climbed into the Top 10 making it the biggest hit to date for any of the Voice UK alumnus. The previous highest-charting entry from any of the BBC One show's contestants was Tyler James's "Single Tear," which reached #28 in October 2012.
  • McFall's version was based on R&B singer Chantay Savage's slower, jazzy interpretation, which peaked at #12 on the UK singles chart and #24 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
