Songfacts®:

  • Ledisi wrote this uplifting ballad with Prince Charlez (Rihanna, Beyoncé) and her longtime collaborator Rex Rideout. The track was produced by DJ Camper (Mary J. Blige).
  • The song finds Ledisi on a natural high due to her self-love and fulfillment. She won’t let anything stop her happiness.

I just want to be safe
I just want to feel good every morning, every single damn morning that I wake
I've been looking for a place
Where the sun shines all the time
  • The song was inspired by Ledisi's personal highs of 2016. "I just felt high off of life," recalled the singer to Billboard magazine. "Everybody has their version of what high is for them. Mine happens to be what you hear on this song."
  • The lyric video was inspired by an installation at Pittsburgh's Andy Warhol Museum. "They had this exhibit where you sit and do the screen test and that's what he would do with his friends and you would just sit there and he's film you doing whatever," Ledisi told ABC Radio.

"It's so cool and weird and there's people walking around the exhibit. I said, 'I want to do this for my lyric video.'"
