Songfacts®:

  • The centrepiece of Raise Vibration, this nearly eight-minute track was partly inspired by the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting in Parkland, Florida, where former student Nikolas Cruz killed 17 students and staff members. It finds Kravitz reflecting on corporate greed, political corruption, racism, environmentalism, the Middle East and war.

"It talks about what's going on today, from racial problems, police mortality, war and environmental problems," the singer told UK newspaper The Sun. "It deals with so many different things, but it's just what's happening. Not just with Trump, but globally."

"Everyone is messing everyone around and governments seem to think war is the answer to disputes," Kravitz added, "People are standing up and wanting things to change."
  • The cinematic track has a Curtis Mayfield-esque groove and a trumpet solo. Surprisingly, it was originally a punk song, but when Kravitz's daughter, Zoë, listened to it she told her father it wasn't working. He told The Guardian: "She was right. I made it smooth, whispered. It made it more powerful."
  • This was released as the lead single from Raise Vibration, an album written entirely from songs Kravitz dreamed. He told Q magazine:

"Normally it happens between 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. The first thing you've got to do is get up - I always spend a few minutes thinking, 'Oh, I'll remember it.' But it doesn't work that way. So you force yourself to get up, grab the recorder, hum the melody or go to my studio. For all those months I was working on the album I didn't get much sleep. I was waking up every night with songs."
