Songfacts®:

  • The title track of Lenny Kravitz' tenth studio album, the bombastic tune is all about acceptance. Kravitz told The Sun: "We're all completely different so 'Strut' is about embracing who and what you are and being proud of it."
  • Kravitz on why he chose the album title: "For me, using that word was about being proud and confident about who you are. Whatever you are. Because we're all different. We're all freaks of some sort. That whole thing about being 'normal,' I don't even know what that is. We're all different. That's the beauty of life. It's about embracing who you are, and walking tall and proud. I think it's a healthy thing. And it's a process, because we go through life changing. We all go through phases. We change, we learn, we grow. Sometimes we're comfortable with ourselves."
  • Kravitz wrote the songs for Strut during his stay in Atlanta, Georgia, while filming The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. If he looks tired in the movie, it's because he stayed up for two weeks working on music. He told New Sounds: "All of this music came into my head. You have to make a choice. You let it go and sleep or capture it. My choice was to capture it because I have to. I stayed up for about two weeks. I didn't sleep for two weeks. Maybe an hour every couple nights I got."
