Songfacts®:

  • "Motorbike" is a tender, sensual ballad where Leon Bridges sings of living in the moment as he travels on a motorbike with his lover.
  • The song's inspiration came from a trip to Puerto Rico where Bridges celebrated his 30th birthday with some of his best friends. Literally the day after he returned, the singer was in a session with Ricky Reed (Halsey, Lizzo) and guitarist Nate Mercereau.

Nate Mercereau brought an afrobeat-type instrumental to the table, which gave Bridges a vibe that excited him. He told Under The Radar: "We wanted to create this song about taking the time to appreciate what is and what's happening right now. Not worrying about putting expectations on the future. Kind of escaping with somebody that you have that deep connection with."

Bridges added that ironically he's "terrified of riding any type of motorcycle."
  • Soul hip-hop singer Anderson .Paak, directed the video. He came up with the concept drawing on the real life story of Bonnie and Clyde.
  • Bridges released "Motorbike" as the lead single from Gold-Diggers Sound. Named after the Los Angeles studio where he recorded the album, the record maintains the old-school soul sound of his previous two longplayers while adding a smoother electronic feel and more transparent lyrics to the mix.
