Songfacts®:

  • Mynx is a singer/songwriter from Oregon whose songs are often inspired by his explorations of America. He told Songfacts: "This song began in Lake Tahoe and finished in Seattle. It had to travel. Everybody was running up to the house on the hill. Its not about death. It is about escape. Death is escape from life. The house on the hill is real. Its not pearly gates. The house on the hill is a hiding place from ourselves. Its windows flicker in the evening. Some people speak of parallel universes. All they have to do is look to the house on the hill. It is a vault. When the secrets within are revealed, the whole village cries. Not out of pity, but out of shame. It is my favorite piece on the album."
