Songfacts®:

  • Liberty X were a group formed by the 'runners-up' from ITV's Popstars talent show (Hear'Say was formed from the winners). The group consists of Jessica Taylor, Kevin Simm, Michelle Heaton, Kelli Young and Tony Lundon. After recording some singles under their original name of Liberty, a High Court judge ruled that the name 'Liberty' belonged to a funk outfit based in Walthamstow, who had been around since the early 1990s. They renamed themselves Liberty X and this was the first single released under their new name. It proved to be their most successful one as it topped the UK chart and won the 2003 BRIT Award for Best UK Single and the songwriters won a Ivor Novello Awards for the most performed song on UK radio in 2002.
  • This, like their other singles, was deliberately raunchier than Liberty X rival Hear'Say's offerings. While Liberty X went from strength to strength, Hear'Say after their record breaking debut "Pure And Simple," proved to have less street cred than their rivals and their material was considered to be inferior. The Popstars winners eventually spilt up in October 2002, shortly before Liberty X appeared in the Royal Variety Performance. After a run of ten consecutive UK Top 20 singles Liberty X eventually announced in May 2007 that they wouldn't be recording together anymore.
  • The songwriters were Michelle Escoffery, John Hammond Hagan and George Hammond Hagan. Escoffery also co-wrote and recorded the vocals for the Artful Dodger's 2001 UK hit "Think About Me." Another Escoffery credit was penning "Dayz Like That," which was a UK Top 10 for Fierce. A cover of "Dayz" by Sugar Jones also spent 7 weeks at #1 in Canada, which broke all previous records for a debut act.
  • This was used as the music for a Halifax Building Society TV advertising campaign in the UK.
