Songfacts®:

  • "Broken" came out of a trip that lead singer Jason Wade took to Nashville to visit a dear friend waiting on a kidney transplant. While the song has a specific inspiration, Wade told Songfacts that the interpretation can vary. "That song I feel has gotten a lot of people through some hard times," he said. "I try when I'm writing a song not to make anything too specific, even though that song was a little bit more specific. But the lyrics, I feel like you can take them and interpret them with whatever emotion is going on in your own life."
  • This rock ballad about the fragility of life has featured on the TV shows Grey's Anatomy, The Hills, Criminal Minds and, One Tree Hill.
  • The song's video was co-directed by co-producer Jude Cole's friend Kiefer Sutherland alongside director Frank Borin. It takes a cue from the film The Sixth Sense, as we see Jason Wade approach a car accident where a woman sees herself dead inside the vehicle. Wade finds his own corpse there as well.
  • Trisha Yearwood remade the song for the soundtrack to The Passion. The country vocalist played Mary, mother of Jesus, in Fox's 2016 live musical based on Christ's last days.

  • Darleen from Albuquerque New Mexico This song has so much meaning and helped me through losing the love of my life. Broken heart l’m falling apart barely breathing I’m damaged at best like you already figured out I’m holding on all the words are familiar to my pain It’s quit beautiful and raw and open and honest I have listened to this song hundreds of times
  • Chris from PennsylvsniaI also listened to this song on Criminal Minds, then, listened again on my phone. I have experienced much loss over the past few years and totally get it...I feel like I am falling apart and barely breathing...I don't get it...but I guess we need to hang around to see what God sends our way next. For all those who have lost family and friends...this song touches my heart...I really miss those who are gone
  • Carol For You from Norfolk, VaI never comment about anything online but this song touches my heart and is awesome. Took awhile to find as heard as a close out song on Criminal Minds, glad I finally did, I'll buy the CD. Hope for the best for you all. Great work.
  • Morgan from St.louis , MoI love this song it's so sad but I can relate to the song.
  • Brandon from Bell, ItalyThis song helps me wen iam feeling down it shows me that wen we think we got no one we have god and hes always going to be there for us no matter Wat.
  • John from Gaithersburg, MdDid anyone pick up in the video the woman he bumped into in the tunnel who said "Hey Whats your problem and the woman in the accident are the same person? Just something I picked up even though I've seen the video many times before.
  • Shannon from Kalkaka, MiThis song is very moving and emotional for me... the song video makes me want to cry!!!
"I am damaged at best.. Like you've already figured out."
  • Pc123 from Portland, OrThe words are very meaningful to me because we all fall back sometimes off the straight and narrow path. Although we all try so hard to hold on to Jesus we all struggle with our own Demons also. We never know what our path is and what the Lord will put in front of us. No matter what, we need to stay on the right track, even though it's hard.
The part in the song says "In your name i find meaning". I think he's trying to keep his faith, holding on to GOD.
I Think So anyways. Also it says "I'm hangin out another day, just to see what you would throw my way, and I'm hangin out to the words you say,You said that I will , I will be ok".
It's whatever HE has put in our path. It's hard sometimes. But Jesus never said it would be easy but that it would be worth it!
    Love this song!
  • Liz from Erie, PaThis song is so beautiful and also very sad. I love the video they did for it.
