Songfacts®:

  • Swiss Beatz initially offered a beat to Eminem for a sequel to "Stan" back in 2008, with the title 'Stan 2,' but he rejected the concept. Swizz was able to retrieve the beat and handed it over to Wayne instead, in exchange for a verse on the rapper/producer's "Rock 'N' Roll" track from his Haute Living album.
  • Wayne's rhymes take the perspective of a rapper writing to his obsessive fan, Anne, thanking her for her support. The Eminem original took the opposite viewpoint, as it saw his obsessed fan, Stan, commit suicide after the Detroit MC fails to respond to his letters. According to Swizz, the song is "taking it to the next level, the way that Wayne tells Anne he's sorry what happened to Stan."
  • The song features a sample from Russian duo, t.A.T.u's tune "30 Seconds."
