Songfacts®:

  • The second single from Lil Wayne's I Am Not A Human Being Pt. 2 album sees Weezy linking up his producer pal Detail. The song originally featured on his Dedication 4 mixtape.
  • The Colin Tilley directed music video finds Wayne and Detail on a decadent trek through Las Vegas. It pays tribute to Terry Gilliam's 1998 film adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's counter-culture ode to excess novel Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Following the clip's premiere on MTV First, Weezy explained to MTV News' Sway Calloway: "Well, we did [the] 'Lollipop' [video] in Vegas, and we did that for the simple reason where I think at that time I had never shot a video in Vegas. We did this video in Vegas because the treatment played off the movie Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. We didn't really follow any script or anything; I just saw the movie, really enjoyed the movie, and I told Colin [Tilley] I was interested in the movie and he wrote a spoof to it, and we shot it."
  • The inspiration for this song came from a conversation between Wayne, his videographer DJ Scoob Doo, and YMCMB producer Detail, who also performs the hook. "We had a weekend that we really wasn't doing anything but in the studio working, and so we just decided to hang out and party the whole weekend, at the studio - not out in clubs," Detail told MTV News.
When Scoob Doo forgot to bring some unspecified party favors, Detail protested until Scoob said. "No worries, man. We good, no worries."
  • For Detail it was an example of the creativity that the YMCMB crew take from everyday things. "Being around 'em more, I realized that there's just so many songs that are just our everyday lifestyles and conversations," he said. "So I think that's what we're tapping into now. We deal with so many interesting things."
