Songfacts®:

  • "What About Me" is about Lil Wayne's relationship with a girl who has lost interest in him and instead is running around with other men.

    Girl, girl, what about me?
I shut down my life for you
Now you run around with him, and him, and him
    How you do that?
How you act like I never held you every night?
Now you never call back, please
    .

Wayne wonders why she doesn't love him anymore.
  • This was originally written in 2015 by Johnny Yukon, a singer-songwriter at Artist Publishing Group, which shops potential hits to various artists – both pop stars and rappers. His other credits include Jennifer Lopez's charity song "Love Make The World Go Round" which was released to benefit victims of the 2016 Orlando nightclub shooting and Young Thug, 2 Chainz, Wiz Khalifa, and PnB Rock's "Gang Up," which was recorded for the Fate of the Furious soundtrack.
  • This features a guest verse from Houston rapper Sosamann, who is part of Wiz Khalifa's Taylor Gang. Johnny Yukon told Rolling Stone at least six artists recorded parts for the song, including Drake and Post Malone but some changes were made in the last week before the release of Tha Carter V. He didn't elaborate on what spurred the final choice.
