Songfacts®:

  • The first song Lily Allen wrote for No Shame, the singer penned this piano ballad after she'd just finished touring her Sheezus album in America. Her four year marriage to builder and decorator Sam Cooper was disintegrating and instead of returning home to England to be with her family, the singer rented a house in Santa Monica and threw herself into writing sessions with producer Fryars. This song finds Allen addressing her husband as she pleads to him not to give up on her.

I've come to the land of the free
    I've let loose, I'm faithless
    I am lost and shameless
    Don't go forgetting me

"Family Man" was written in late 2015, a few months before the breakdown of Allen's marriage went public.
