  • Allen sings here about the myth that, as the daughter of actor/comedian Keith Allen, she had a privileged upbringing. "Oh gosh, it sounds really boring," she said to Q magazine, "but the idea that I've been driving around in stretch limousines my whole life because my dad's an actor couldn't be further from the truth. My dad's got eight kids, and I think his highest-paid gig was for a Listerine advert – divide that by eight and that's not really going that far."
  • As well as having supposedly rich parents, Allen takes on several other misconceptions in the song such as she slept with executives in order to get signed. "People are just so judgmental and convinced they know exactly who I am," she told Rolling Stone. "They come to their own conclusions and their mind won't be changed. That's the world we live in. I always kind of try to look at people and see the best in them and give them a chance."

"But people that are probably less fortunate look at me and think, 'Well, she's got everything. She's had everything. It's been handed to her on a silver plate," Allen added. "It's just not true. I've been through some really, really awful things that other people haven't been through. We're all human beings and life is not f---ing fair."
  • The song title comes from the phrase: 'Born with a silver spoon in one's mouth.' The term refers to somebody who's born into a well-to-do family environment; the reference being to the gift of a silver spoon by the godparents. The lucky child does not need to wait for the gift as he or she inherits it at birth.
  • The song was previously titled "Some People."
