Songfacts®:

  • Mike Shinoda wrote this song with Justin Parker during a stopover in London on the way back from the Hunting Party tour. It was one of several tunes that he penned with the English songwriter and he recalled to Ticket Master: "I thought it was super fun and saw merit in keeping that going. I took the songs back to the band and asked them what they think. They loved the material, first and foremost."
  • Justin Parker is an English songwriter and producer who is best known for his work with female singer-songwriters such as Lana Del Rey ("Video Games") and Bat for Lashes ("Laura").
  • On the track, Mike Shinoda sings about being a father. Speaking with the German press, Shinoda explained the track was written about the moment as a parent when you need to tell your children something they don't want to hear and may upset them, but are doing so because it's necessary and you love them.
