Songfacts®:

  • On "Rockstar" Lisa doesn't hold back. She flexes about the luxurious life she's built, the thrill of jet-setting around the globe, and the influence she wields as a multilingual trendsetter.

The title is a playful nod to her iconic line in BlackPink's "Shut Down":

A rockstar, a popstar but rowdier
  • Lisa co-wrote the song with pop hitmaker Ryan Tedder (Beyonce, Adele and Tate McRae) alongside Brittany Amaradio, James Essien, Lucy Healey and Sam Homaee. Tedder and Homaee also produced the track, creating a blippy mix of hip-hop and club music.
  • "Rockstar" samples Tame Impala's 2015 track "New Person, Same Old Mistakes."
  • Released on June 28, 2024, "Rockstar" marked Lisa's first solo song since she dropped "Lalisa" and "Money" in September 2021. It was also Lisa's first release after launching her own label, Lloud.co, and partnering with RCA Records following her departure from YG Entertainment.
  • The dance-driven music video is a vibrant celebration of Lisa's Thai culture and street life. Shot at various locations in Bangkok, including Yaowarat Road in the city's Chinatown, she reportedly paid the equivalent of $540 to each shop owner to close early in order to film.

Three prominent Thai transgender influencers appear throughout the clip. Their inclusion serves as a subtle nod to Thailand's legalization of same-sex marriage earlier in June, the first Southeast Asian country to do so.
  • Lisa performed "Rockstar," along with "New Woman," at the VMAs in 2024, her first performance as a solo artist. "Rockstar" won for Best K-Pop.
