Songfacts®:

  • Confetti are small pieces of colored paper that are thrown at celebrations, especially parades and weddings. Modern paper confetti traces back to symbolic rituals of throwing corn (and later, sweets or rice) during special occasions. Confetti is the plural of Italian confetto, referring to the little sweets, or imitations of them, thrown at carnivals in Italy.

Here, Little Mix flip the script on a breakup song by reveling in escaping a bad relationship. They compare their celebrations of being free from the dude to confetti falling from the sky.
  • The country-pop quartet Gone West used a similar lyrical concept on their 2019 song also titled "Confetti."
  • The girls chose this as the title track of their sixth album. Little Mix' Perrie Edwards told Apple Music: "As soon as we had this song, we just knew this would be what the album would be called. It was fun, cool, and you could do so much with it."
  • Little Mix's Jesy Nelson wrote the song with:

Camille Purcell, who helped write seven songs for Confetti. She previously won a BRIT Award for Best Single with the girls for helping them pen "Shout Out To My Ex."

Uzoechi Emenike (a.k.a. MNEK), who has writing and or production credits on four Confetti tracks. He also co-penned their 2016 hit "Touch."

British American songwriter Maegan Cottone, who previously worked with Little Mix on their "Move" and "Salute" singles.
  • TMS produced the song. The London-based trio of Tom "Froe" Barnes, Ben Kohn and Peter "Merf" Kelleher have worked with Little Mix since their early hit singles "Wings" and "DNA." They also produced "Happiness" on Confetti.
  • Little Mix reworked and revamped the song for its single release on April 30, 2021. The new version features American artist Saweetie dropping a fresh verse in which she adds her own spicy flavor. It was the first single released by Little Mix as a trio, following the departure of Jesy Nelson in December 2020.
  • Samuel Douek directed the video, which shows the three Little Mix girls having a showdown in a nightclub with male versions of themselves. Jade Thirlwall said, "We always think of video ideas and gender reversals. You know when you see rappers in the club with girls dancing? Imagine if that was switched round."

Saweetie delivers her verse from a street outside while three Drag Race UK stars - A'Whora, Tayce and Bimini Bon-Boulash - offer some advice to the three Little Mix dudes.

Samuel Douek is a trained architect turned filmmaker and visual artist. He is the founder and director of the Hola Mexico Film Festival, the largest Mexican Film Festival outside of Mexico, which takes place yearly in Los Angeles.
