Songfacts®:

  • "Woman Like Me" finds The Little Mix quartet being honest about their failings. They ask a prospective suitor whether he can accept them, flaws and all, as they are not stereotypical good girls.

I made a few mistakes, I regret it nightly
I broke a couple hearts that I wear on my sleeve
My momma always said "Girl, you're trouble" and
And now I wonder, could you fall for a woman like me

The quartet are well known for their girl power songs such as "Black Magic" and "Shout Out To My Ex," so this one's right up Little Mix's alley. They said the lyrics are "about celebrating incredible women in every shape and form. We don't feel like there are enough places to celebrate women right now... so we wanted to make one!"
  • The song features a guest verse by Nicki Minaj. Though Little Mix have never worked with the Queen Barbz before, their first performance as a group on X Factor UK – they were then called Rhythmix - was a cover of the American rapper's 2010 hit "Super Bass."
  • The song was written by Jessie Glynne, Ed Sheeran and mega producer Steve Mac. It was originally intended to be on Glynne's 2018 Always In Between album, but it didn't fit in with the direction of the record, so she gave the tune to Little Mix to record.
  • According to Cardi B, she turned down the chance to collaborate with Little Mix before it was offered to her rival Nicki Minaj. Cardi said she declined the hookup as she's "doing a lot of pop records so I can't over exaggerate myself."

However, Little Mix were quick to set the record straight, stating that Nicki was approached first and had always been their dream collaborator.

Minaj confirmed that Little Mix had been trying to get her on a song for seven years and she "finally found one I loved."
  • The song's music video was directed by Marc Klasfeld and filmed at Knebworth House in Hertfordshire, England. It won The British Video Award at the 2019 BRITs.
  • This won Best Song at the 2019 Global Awards. The British girl band also won Best Group at the ceremony.
