Songfacts®:

  • This song deals with the senselessness of war. Said lead singer Ed Kowalczyk: "Kids deserve a future. We deserve a better future. And war, no matter who it's against or who it's for, is not the answer, and it will only make the world a more dangerous place." >>>

  • This is featured on Live's seventh studio album, Birds Of Pray, which was mostly inspired by the birth of Kowalczyk's daughter, Ana. It's one of two tracks on the album that veer into political commentary. The singer told the Dutch magazine OOR in 2003: "My lyrics are obviously dominated by personal thoughts, ideas and experiences. They're about individual happiness, I don't need to make these huge statements anymore about the world's existence. 'Bring The People Together' and 'What Are We Fighting For' are the only two politically influenced songs. Ninety percent is personal."
  • The album was produced by Jim Wirt, who produced Hoobastank's self-titled debut a couple years earlier.
