LoCash is a duo comprising Preston Brust (from Indiana) and Chris Lucas (from Baltimore, Maryland). Both are vocalists, songwriters, and guitarists.
Brust and Lucas first met at Nashville's Wildhorse Saloon and bonded over their shared love of music. They started performing together and signed to R&J Records, releasing their first single, "Here Comes Summer," in 2010.
The name "LoCash" came from a group of friends Brust had called the "Locash Money Boys," with "Locash" short for "Low On Cash," a reminder that the best things in life are free and a way to remember their humble origins.

"I love that mentality," Lucas told Baltimore magazine. "And now we're just LoCash because everybody started calling us LoCash anyway. But I thought it was a cool thing. It doesn't mean you're poor, even though we were back then, it just means you remember your roots."
Before their breakthrough as performers, Lucas and Brust co-wrote Keith Urban's "You Gonna Fly" (2010) and Tim McGraw's "Truck Yeah" (2012), both of which were hits.
Preston Brust's father served as a Church of Christ minister in Kokomo, Indiana. He spent Sunday mornings singing in his father's church, which practiced a cappella worship. "We were an a capella church," Brust told Pollstar. "You had to learn how to sing all four parts or you weren't allowed to sing."
Brust had limited exposure to secular music during his upbringing, with only a few records by artists like Willie Nelson, Eddie Rabbitt, and the Oak Ridge Boys available at home. When he moved to Nashville and met Chris Lucas, his LoCash partner introduced him to a broader range of musical styles, including '80s rock and R&B.

This blend of gospel roots and newfound secular influences contributed to the unique sound of LoCash. "We come from two different backgrounds. Chris was secular music," Brust explained to Music and Lyrics or Something Like It. "And then on the other side, I have the gospel. My dad is the preacher for the Church of Christ, so I grew up in the church with a hymnal in my hand every day."
In 2024, LoCash launched their own record label, Galaxy Label Group, allowing them greater creative control over their music. "Hometown Home" was their first song released under this label.
