Songfacts®:

  • Logic penned this song at a time when he felt frustrated at his then lack of success as a rapper. "When I started writing ['Buried Alive'], I felt like I wasn't getting the shine I deserved," he told MTV News. "I wasn't necessarily where I wanted to be in the hip-hop world."

Since he wrote the song, Logic's debut album, Under Pressure, has become a commercial hit, peaking at #4 on the Billboard 200, so now he is getting some shine in the hip-hop world.
  • Logic chose the instrumentation from one of twenty beats given to him by Atlanta-based producer Dun Deal. He then added new drums plus Big Lenbo's backing vocals.
  • The John Benavente and Alec Eskander directed video was shot in California on January 24, 2015. It finds Logic on an interplanetary trip that represents his range of emotions, using different planets to symbolize those moods. "If I'm on a desert planet, maybe things are kind of dry," the rapper explained to MTV News. "If I'm on an ice planet, things are cold and I'm trying to push through to the warmth. If I'm on a green vegetative planet, then things are good and my imagination is flourishing."
