  • This song about a forever love is rooted in a real romance. It was written by the Nashville songwriters Chris Lindsey, Aimee Mayo and Marv Green. When they wrote the song, Lindsey and Mayo were in the process of falling in love, and drew upon their burgeoning romance for inspiration. "Our feelings for each other just started coming out as we were writing," Mayo said.

Lindsey explained: "We began as friends. I was married, she had two or three boyfriends. We were really close, then at some point right around 'Amazed,' it all changed. When I hear that song on the radio, that's the exact feeling I had for her. That's how I felt. That song bottled a unique emotion to me, and I can feel that still. I think what people feel is that."

Lindsey and Mayo ended up getting married and kept writing songs together, including Lonestar's next single (also a Country #1), "Smile."
  • "Amazed" was the first song by a country act to hit #1 on the Hot 100 since "Islands in the Stream" by Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton in 1983. It was a slow climber, taking a record 30 weeks to reach the Top 10.

In the UK, despite reaching only #21, it sold over 180,000 copies during its chart run, a lot for a song that didn't reach the Top 20.
  • With the line, "I want to spend the rest of my life with you by my side," "Amazed" is a very popular wedding song. According to PRS For Music, the UK music royalties collecting service, it's the most popular song choice for UK newlyweds' first dances. The 2009 survey was conducted by asking 2,000 wedding videographers, which were the most requested first songs at the weddings they attended. In second place came Aerosmith's "I Don't Want To Miss A Thing," followed by Shania Twain's "From This Moment On."
  • When Songfacts spoke with Lonestar lead singer Richie McDonald in 2013, he said he still loves performing the song. "Artists wait for a song like that to come along that can take their career to another level, and that song did that for Lonestar, and that's something that we'll never forget," he said. "And it's not just the impact that it had on our careers, but the impact that it has on the fans. I mean, 10 years later it still has the same effect. That song to me is just a classic, timeless song. And it is that song that took Lonestar to another level. We will never, ever get tired of playing that song, just because we still have fans come up to us night after night saying that's the song they got married to, the song they use on their anniversary. That's what music is supposed to be about: if you can get in touch with people's emotions, you can become a part of their story, as well. We've made an impact on people's lives and that means more than anything to us."
  • When "Amazed" hit #1 on the Hot 100 on March 4, 2000, it unseated another wedding favorite, "I Knew I Loved You" by Savage Garden, which went to #2. America was really feeling the love: the next two songs on the chart were Faith Hill's "Breathe" at #3 and Mariah Carey's "Thank God I Found You" at #4.
  • With so many people using this song at weddings and other special occasions, Lonestar sometimes feel a bit of pressure when performing it, as there are so many special memories associated with it. "I have a friend who's a DJ and he says he plays it at every single wedding that he performs at," Richie McDonald told Songfacts. "The problem is that sometimes you try to recreate that, but you can't recreate that. You've just got to go in. It kind of sets the bar awful high."
  • The music video was directed by Trey Fanjoy and stars Sunny Mabrey, who went on to star in the movies Snakes On A Plane and Hillbilly Elegy, and appear on episodes of Mad Men, The Client List, and Once Upon A Time.
  • Amazingly, this was just the second song with the word "amazed" in the title to make the Hot 100, following "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney.
  • Lonestar released a "reimagined" version of "Amazed" with a new lyric video on March 1, 2023 to promote their album Ten to 1, which contains new versions of 10 of their songs.

  • Brenda from TennesseeI have heard that the song “Amazed” was originally written by a man named Ken Pietri from Louisiana. He was performing the song on stage and afterwards, a man came up to him asking if he could “buy” the song from Mr. Pietri who then signed over his song without any attorney present and not fully understanding what he was signing. The man then took Mr. Pietri’s song to his writers who changed just enough lyrics to make it theirs and changed the name to “Amazed”. Mr. Pietri is never listed anywhere as one of the songwriters nor has he profited from the song’s continued success. I hope someone can make this right for Mr. Pietri.

Martin, I'm glad I don't know you. I think it's safe to say that you're alone and bitter. If you're not alone then I feel sorry for the one you're with.

My most recent boyfriend (ending the relationship was not my choice) didn't like country music but I told him our relationship made me think of this song so he downloaded it (legally) and we listened to it together. (If anyone reads my comments on any other songs, I'm just warning you I talk about this relationship a LOT. You will get sick of hearing about it. It seems like every song on earth reminds me either of him or of how much I miss us.)
